Great Notion Brewing
When approached by Great Notion Brewing to design a test-fit for a new “neighborhood-scaled” satellite location for their brewery, THESIS jumped at the opportunity! The already thriving brand had recently finished a large flagship location in NW, drawing off the strength of their original Alberta location. With a strong brand palette in place already, the exercise was in finding a way to implement in a smaller, 2,000 SF facility, as a test-pilot for replication around the Pacific Northwest as the company strives to meet the demand for their often quirky, but always delicious craft brews. The space for this taproom was stripped back to a “vanilla shell” from its former identity as a breakfast cafe, and re-designed around a signature 35’ long bar, rendered in contrasting wood tones of finished Doug Fir and charred shou-sugi-ban wood paneling. The back bar and keg walk-in is wrapped in the same charred wood, with accents of copper – the surface of which patinas quickly over time, completing the raw, elemental finishes of the space. Elsewhere throughout the taproom, large scale mural art and even wallpaper made from their distinctive can labels lends the space its own brand of Pacific Northwest rooted charm.
