Skyline Sanctuary
Skyline Sanctuary
When our clients purchased their new home overlooking lush woods just minutes from downtown Portland, they knew they found something special. They also knew they found something that needed a major overhaul. Drawn to the property by the sense of refuge and seclusion created by the forested back yard, they immediately started dreaming about ways that would further connect the house to the outdoors and support the style of living and entertaining they envisioned. THESIS got to work on a plan that gave the property a more dramatic and inviting initial presence and curb appeal at the front of the house, while simultaneously creating an extroverted and light-filled entertaining area addressing the back. The plan makes use of a clever integration of new structure to create surprising changes to the existing rooflines and open the main floor plan into a series of broad open spaces that is both activated by and reliant on a central “column” rendered in rift sawn white oak.
