In short, THESIS was incredible.
Colin basically redesigned my entire house while I was away, through a series of email conversations and renderings, and it’s great. Everything was shockingly on time and budget, which seems absolutely impossible based upon what I’ve heard from others doing major renovation projects (ie, removed and raised the roof, totally gutted everything to the studs, added a new room — and even moved the kitchen, which people say you should never do). I can’t recommend them enough. Their attention to detail was amazing (it’s impossible to tell what is new versus original), and it was an absolute pleasure working with them!

Although we had not originally planned on spending a good chunk of money on architectural and design fees, we’re so glad we did. THESIS was able to act as the middleman between us and our contractors where they could “talk the talk” in terms of construction terms and then explain them to us in plain English and also provide perspective on what is typical.
THESIS thought of ways to better our project that in no way would we have ever thought of on our own. For example, we have a galley kitchen and there wasn’t much we could do layout-wise without changing the footprint of our main floor in a big way but we really wanted room for a pantry and THESIS had the idea of closing off one of the doors to the kitchen. We thought that might make it feel weird and smaller, but it doesn’t. It’s a great design and by widening the remaining entrance to the kitchen, the kitchen actually feels way bigger than it used to. Also, THESIS brought in several of the design elements original to our 1924 house in parts of the new construction. We never would have thought to do that and we get compliments on these small details all the time.
Andy may have more style in his pinky finger than the 2 of us have combined and we were able to give him a general idea of our style and he came up with combinations that work well together and get complimented constantly. People rave about our kitchen, main floor bathroom and master bathroom, in no small part to Andy’s great taste!
Colin insisted with our contractor that we do weekly walkthroughs of the project to see progress, address open items, etc. Our contractor said he never really does those but was open to it…those meetings were so valuable that by the end of the process our contractor said he was going to start having regular walkthroughs at his other projects because that process worked so well.
We tell friends and family that our project was on time and on budget and that we still really like our architect/designer and contractor and people just don’t believe it. It was a positive experience all around! We can’t wait to do Phase 2!

Pearl District Loft

We worked with Thesis on our recent remodel and update of our Pearl District loft condo. Two bathrooms were completely remodeled, a built-in book shelf constructed and the kitchen painted.
Colin and Andy immediately understood our style and the direction we wanted to go with the project. They recognized we don’t have typical “cookie cutter” tastes and like to have our place in keeping with its 100 year old structure and charm. Their ideas and suggestions were spot on and definitely improved on what we had in mind…even down to some very cool wall paper in the downstairs bath.
Our place has completely transformed from pretty nice to stunning. The tile bathrooms with their amazing new showers make us want multiple showers a day! Our bookshelves and adjacent painted kitchen make our place more homey and stylish at the same time. We can’t wait to be living in it full time very soon.
We also needed experts to monitor the contractor and progress of work through the duration of the project. We primarily live in Seattle, and could not stay in our loft during the work. Thesis was there for us to ensure everything was going to plan and the details being taken care of correctly. With their help the project was completed on time and under budget.

The team at Thesis were professional, extremely detailed, committed to quality, and easy to work with. We were living remotely during the planning stage of our project and a couple months into the start of the demolition/work stage of the project, and THESIS were great at communicating via email, mockups, and phone. We always felt listened to and informed even though we were out of state for a portion of the time. The entire process felt very collaborative, with our input being acknowledged and valued every step of the way. Every design desire we could imagine – whether large such as our Beetlejuice – inspired wall, or small such as the pet doorway into our laundry room – were considered and met with optimism.
